You're not a dork! I was keeping my fingers crossed for them. I, too, remember seeing both the Challenger and Columbia - though I did not really comprehend Challenger at the time since I was in kindergarden. Still I always make sure to keep the astronauts in my thoughts.
Posted by Chrissie at August 9, 2005 09:09 AMOHMYGOSH! I am a big-ole DORK with ya girl! I had the same feelings... I was watching it on CNN this morning, just scared to death. I got a little misty-eyed myself when they landed safely. My Grandfather worked for NASA and helped put the men on the moon when I was but 4 months old, so I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the space program.
Posted by Petra at August 9, 2005 09:13 AMUnfortunately, I have been alive long enough to remember all the space disasters, not just the Shuttle program ones. I't always a huge, tearful, relief when we know they are safe. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.
Posted by Julia at August 9, 2005 09:30 AMI sat at my desk and watched the streaming video (not that you could see much--it was still dark in California!), but yeah, I wanted to see them land safely, too. Yay for the space program!
Posted by Deb at August 9, 2005 09:34 AMAs a fellow dork I understand the relief of knowing they landed safely. I didn't get to listen to it this morning, but when I got to work and someone said they had landed safely, my heart clenched up for a brief second until my brain processed that nothing bad had happened. I got a bit leaky too. :)
Posted by Stalker Angie at August 9, 2005 02:40 PMYou are not big dorks...take pride in your space program...it's for our generation!
My Pixie loves to come watch takeoffs...and take me around for career day. :)
I have a little routine for every takeoff and landing...and I've worked a lot of them on console. It's not dorky. Besides that Commander (first woman ever) was so smooth at the helm. It was COOL!
Send me your address, Skitter. I'll send you a little shuttle goodie for ya to keep and treasure.
Anything for a fellow knitter who gets as choked up as I do, for a good landing.
I watched it this morning and said a prayer of thanks after they landed Ok.
Posted by Dell at August 9, 2005 04:04 PMThen many of us are dorks. I didn't cry (but I wasn't watching), but I cry during commercials. The one about Iams Dog food? With Casey the Irish Setter? When Casey's all old at the end and can barely make it up the steps... man o man. SNIFF. SNIFF. Being sentimental is what allows us to have a conscience. :)
Posted by cyn at August 10, 2005 01:59 AMI added your blog to my 'daily reads' about a month ago and wanted to drop you a line just to say how much I am enjoying it. oh and for the record. I read those '100 things about me' lists too :)
Cheers.
Posted by Shannon at August 11, 2005 06:48 PMMake me a dork, too, then. Watching the Challenger explode in my fourth grade class room left a lasting impression.
