another random Wednesday! January 28, 2009

Wow, I seem to maybe possibly be on a roll lately with the blogging!

Here’s some Wednesday randomicity . . .

1. Though it’s cool to be in touch with some long-lost old friends, I think Facebook is kinda creepy.  I think it’s the whole “worlds colliding” aspect of it.

2. Today was a random ice day for me . . . the roads were really bad this morning, and schools were closed, so I took the day off.  The ice was mostly melted by 12:30, so I got to go spend a little bit of time with Evie and NanC and Visiting Brother Kevin.  And OMG, that bebeh is adorable!

3. I finished knitting a pair of fingerless mitts, and have worn them three times since!

4. The yarn for these mitts is Koigu, received from my Secret Pal 2, Nathania.  Back in October 2004.  Yes, you read that right, 2004!  It was the first Koigu I ever laid hands on, and it took me this long to figure out what to do with a single skein!

5. Wow, my arms are very pasty-white, aren’t they?

6. Yes, I have a birdfeeder that contains yarn.  Whenever I have leftover bits of yarn, I put them in that little bronze birdfeeder in case any nearby birds need some for nest-making.

7. I had nothing on the needles for three whole days after I finished the mitts, but don’t worry,  I cast on a sock this morning while watching the local newsteam freak out about the weather.

Scatter Brain December 6, 2008

It always seems to happen this time of year . . . right after Thanksgiving and until Christmas, I suffer from a severe case of Scatter Brain.  Okay, yeah, I know that this is not an abnormal state for me, but during the holidays it is much, much worse.  I find I have trouble focusing on anything for any length of time, and as a result, I end up stressed out and with nothing done.  An example?  This morning I decided it was high time that the kitchen bar and dining room table get cleared off and the kitchen cleaned up . . . I went in there, and flitted around a bit, tidying a thing here and a thing there, and then lost interest and decided to upload pictures to flickr instead, which morphed into “Oh, I should blog!”.  And here I am.  Is the kitchen clean? Nope.  Is the dining room table cleared off?  Nope.  Do I have seventy other “good ideas” in my head of things I should be doing?  Yup.

I don’t have any new knitting pictures; I’m still monkeying around with Monkey socks, and am almost to the heel flap on sock #2.  For about five seconds yesterday I thought maybe I could whip out a quick knitted gift for someone for Christmas, but then came to my senses (or got distracted, I’m not sure).

In the “old news” category, I had a great Thanksgiving weekend.  We spent Thursday at B’s mom’s house, then went over to NanC and Matt’s for dessert and a bit of Guitar Hero World Tour.   Then on Friday we got together with our friends Kim and Ken who were here from Baltimore for the Dallas Cowboys game on Thursday.  We took them to the Fort Worth Stockyards, which was big fun.  We went to Joe T. Garcia’s for lunch, and then Kim and B rode a mechanical bull.  Yes, they really did! Then we hung around to watch the cattle drive.

A good time was had by all, and I highly recommend the Ft. Worth Stockyards to anyone who visits the area — it’s very “Texas-y”, and I swear you’ll be tempted to buy some cowboy boots (until you see the pricetag, anyway).
