2010 Project: a room a month January 6, 2010

So, I read about this on Julie’s blog . . . she came up with a clever idea to work on house projects one room at a time, one per month. There are a bunch of things I want to tackle at home, but when I look at the entire list at once, my head wants to asplode and leak brainy stuff out my ears. Also, we are working with limited funds Chez Skittermagoo (thank you, Economic Downturn or whatever you want to call it).

Because I’m usually late to things like this, I don’t have pictures yet, but I do have my list and an idea of where to start. So that’s something!

I don’t really have twelve separate rooms (we have a very open floor plan), so some areas I’ve broken up into smaller bits, which is actually good — I’m sure there are some months that I will be less motivated than others. Or maybe busy knitting or something.

So, here it is; my list of “rooms”, in no particular order:

  1. Dining room
  2. Kitchen
  3. Laundry “nook”
  4. Downstairs bathroom
  5. Living room
  6. Entryway
  7. Upstairs landing
  8. Master bedroom
  9. Master bath
  10. Garage
  11. Deck/breezeway
  12. Hobby room/fiber studio

I’m thinking for January I may tackle the entryway, mainly because it really doesn’t need much and will be an easy thing to start with! Stay tuned!

And they huffed, and they puffed . . . June 18, 2008

. . . and they blew the fence down!

Well, I don’t think it was pigs who did it, but yesterday apparently we had quite a storm at my house (though not so much where I work).

So yeah . . . this is the scene I came home to yesterday evening:

Admittedly, the fence was not in great shape, and I suspected that it was mostly being held up by that tree you see in the photo, but I was hoping that it would last just a little bit longer! The wind snapped the posts off at the ground, which really sucks — it looks like a new fence is in our immediate future.  Also, I know it could be much, much worse, and it’s nothing compared to what folks in parts of the midwest are going through with all the floods and stuff.

B and I did manage to prop up the sections and (hopefully) brace it a bit . . . we also zip-tied the sections together, which is gloriously ghetto-looking. But yay for zip ties!

I just hope it will stay up until we can get it fixed . . .
