Sigh. I seem to be really not keeping up with this blogging thing lately . . . not that I was ever really consistent, right?
Okay, so. Since I last posted, what has happened . . . well, switched the kitten's name from her shelter-given name ("Mardi") to a couple other options, neither of which stuck, and I had to take her to the vet for the first time and start a file, so we reverted back to "Mardi". At least twice a day I think of other names that would have been perfect for her, but it's kinda too late now.
Speaking of Mardi, she was sick the week after we brought her home; she had a "fever of unknown origin" for several days, and we spent a lot of time both at our regular vet and at the local emergency clinic. She's just fine, now, though, and has gained more than a pound (for a whopping total of 3lb as of yesterday).
Big Kitty/ Little Kitty relations continue to be strained; Abby's new hobby is growling at Mardi whenever she sees her. In her defense, Mardi likes nothing better than jumping on Abby's back and trying (fruitlessly) to play with her, which doesn't hold any interest for Abby.
Despite all the hostility, we caught this scene the other day:

I suspect that Abby was already fast asleep when Mardi arrived on the scene, but they stayed this way for quite a while. Once they were both awake, the growling was revisited.
With a 12-week-old kitten in the house, knitting has been sparse compared to usual, but I managed to finish some socks . . .

plain vanilla socks in Socks That Rock, "Seal Rock" colorway
And just because I love this yarn so much, here's a closeup of the fabric . . .

I've also got a lot going on in the garden, which is kind of surprising -- it's been so hot/rainy/humid/mosquitoey lately that I haven't really been spending a lot of time on it. Just today, though, we had our first harvest of two eggplants, two jalapenos, and a deformed cucumber. I'll have pictures soon, I promise, but my battery died just after I took this picture of some heirloom tomatoes:

I hope they ripen soon!!
Okiedokie, I'm off to go make some homemade pizza (Sunday is pizza night here, which also means WINE!)
