Back in the land of Internet, sort of.

I'm back in the land of the internet (yay!), not because I have internet at home yet (boo), but because I'm back at work (boo) after a week off!

Brought my laptop in to work with me this morning to check my blog email (I don't have my work computer configured to get the blog mail), and all is fine with receiving, but I can't send off my prettyposies mail account for some reason. Grrrr. I'm sure it's something simple, but I took the easy way out and created a temporary email account for the blog that I can access from the web . . . so that was a really long way of tellin' ya that if I owe you an email or haven't responded to a comment, it's because I'm dumb and couldn't configure my laptop correctly.

Wow, that Steph is good, isn't she? First comment out and she gets it! Yeah, the blue blob is a dishcloth. I've been on a dishcloth frenzy since about the time I packed up all my yarn to move. (speaking of . . . it's all unpacked! Pictures soon!). So Steph, if you send me your snail mail addy (to skittermagoo(at)sbcglobal(dot)net), I'll send you a little prize! Julia, too, since you also guessed it.

And the dishcloth frenzy, though not over, has slowed a bit and I've been working on a sock. I'll try to get a photo up tomorrow!

Okay, so I gotta go for now . . . I have TONS of work emails to slog through and I have to figure out exactly what it is I do here at this thing I call a job. Ugh.

Moved, but not unmoved.

Hey y’all!

I’m posting this from NanC’s place, because I still don’t have internet (and won’t for a while, due to the phone company weirdness here) . . . I couldn’t stand not to check my email, so I imposed myself on NanC and Matty to check my email and put in a leetle blog post.

The move went well; we are more than halfway unpacked already! Not totally unmoved from the apartment (we’ve got bits and pieces left, plus cleaning to do), but that’ll hopefully be finished this weekend when it gets a little bit cooler. And we’ve already had our first cookout, with NanC and Matt and a certain Bot-Girl in attendance. BTW, thanks, Matty, for saving the day with your non-empty propane tank. Who knew that they sell empty ones to unsuspecting people like the Hub?

The cats, well . . . that was interesting. Cloey adjusted very quickly, but Abby took a couple of days (and she growled for about 5 hours straight when we first got here). The stairs confused both of them at first, and Cloey still forgets how to get downstairs from time to time. Not the smartest cats, these two. Anyway, they are both almost completely assimilated.

I finally found the card reader for my camera, so you wanna see my living room? Here it is, as seen from the stairway (and with no flash! That’s all natural light, baby!)

livingroom.jpg
how many cats do you see?

Wait a second . . . what’s that blue thing on the coffee table? Could it be? Possibly? Why yes, it is actual knitting! Woohoo!

I’ll give you three guesses as to what it is . . . first one to get it will get a prize! (Knitforce Nine, y’all are exempt, unfortunately, as is anyone else who was at SnB this weekend)

On the move . . .

We're getting ready to move our computers to the new house tonight (the movers come tomorrow morning for all the boxes and furniture) . . . not sure if I'll have internet for the next week or so while I'm off work, so blogging may be sparse if at all. Not that that's any different than usual!

Maybe lack of internet will mean that I'll get some actual knitting done . . . hmmmmmm. In any case I promise to take lots of pictures and give y'all an update as soon as I can!

Smootches!

We came, we closed, we own a house!

Thanks to everyone who left encouraging words re:my anxiety about the closing . . .

The Hub and I closed on our house yesterday, and it went more quickly and smoothly than we could ever imagine! I chalk that up to having a really great team (loan officer, real estate agent, closing agent); I've heard a lot of not so great stories floating around, but we weren't one of them. Real Estate Agent Jeff in particular has been stellar; if anyone out there is in the Dallas area and needs an agent, I've got a great one for you!

So, we closed, got the keys, and went straight to the house; Hub checked to see if the lawn mower started (it did, and he went ahead and immediately mowed the lawn!), while I ran around in circles in every single room yelling "myhousemyhouseMYHOUSE!" before collapsing in a heap. We also made our first Home Depot run, coming home with a hedge trimmer, a weedeater, a hose, and some other little things.

Ah, homeownership! I now own a house. I also own a huge list of projects that I can't wait to get started on.

I don't think it's even close to totally sinking in yet, but I'm getting there! I think once our stuff and the cats are there, it will begin to take shape in my brain.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to lay linoleum tiles in the cabinets (my mom's great suggestion in lieu of shelf paper), Thursday is more little stuff, and Friday we move! Yippee!!!

Knitter held hostage by cardboard boxes!

(In which I first ask forgiveness from the Grammar Gods for the multitude of sins I'm about to commit)

Hey y'all, long time no see, I know! I've done precious little knitting lately (except for Thursday Knitnight with my girls), mainly because of this:

packing.jpg
These boxes are driving me batty!

Argh. Have I mentioned lately how much I despise packing to move? No? Oh, that would be because I haven't blogged in so long. Oh, yeah. That.

And actually, the picture was taken a couple of days ago, so it doesn't do justice to all the progress we made this weekend . . . just imagine the number of boxes maybe doubled, and then add a few. Ugh. The good news is that I think that maybe we're almost close to being done. Maybe. In any case we've passed the point where it feels like we pack and pack and pack and make no discernible progress in the packed:unpacked ratio. The kitchen is almost done (save a few stubborn appliances that aren't box-shaped-or-sized), and the only really big things left are our clothes and the bathrooms.

And no, I'm not using the first person plural because I've finally gone around the bend and need to be institutionalized . . . the "we" refers to me AND The Hub. 'Cause he's been packing, too.

So, tomorrow is the closing; let's alltogethernow cross fingers and toes and hope that everything goes as smoothly as Real Estate Agent Jeff keeps assuring me it will . . . and if it does, it means that this time tomorrow The Hub and I will be homeowners! I already have a bottle of champagne chillin' in the fridge, and the wineglasses haven't been packed yet.*

I'm off work all day tomorrow, and again on Friday for the movers (please, please, please let me be ready for the movers!), and also the following week, so that hopefully I can get things unpacked and get rid of the stupid boxes as quickly as possible!

*I'm moving the wineglassses by hand, possibly wrapped in Koigu, because as much as I hate to be a slave to "things", they were wedding gifts, and the pattern is discontinued and I will never be able to replace them when they break, the event which I hope to delay as long as is humanly possible by someone as clumsy as I am. (Whew, that was quite a sentence!)

Yeah, yeah, I know

It's been ages since I've posted. But do you really want to hear about the latest box I packed, or listen to me bitch about how much I hate packing to move (I love unpacking, but hate packing). Yeah, I thought as much . . . it's not interesting to me, so why would it be interesting to anyone else?

And I could also tell you about how I haven't had the time or inclination to replace the dead batteries in my camera. Which means that you won't be seeing my finished broadripple socklet OR the other sock I just started. Maybe this weekend. Or maybe not.

This whole packing thing is making me a little cranky (not to mention the hormones, etc). The moving thing isn't at fault -- I'm very excited about that! I just wonder if I will get all this crap into boxes before the movers come (two weeks from Friday, if you're counting). Sigh.

OK, so tomorrow is knitnight, which I've been looking forward to all week long. And maybe, just maybe, I will get some batteries for the camera so that I can show some actual knitting. Yeah. Because this is supposed to be a knitting blog.
